Well now that you've introduced a mineral base oil to a glycol based fluid? Bad JuJu, These two do not play together well at all, You've already seen the chemical reaction take place with your cap, So what do you suppose its doing to All the rubber components within your brake system? as in the caliper piston seals and any o rings and seals within the antilock manifold, As a heavy equipment mechanic I normally see this in reverse, as in some dumbass farmer or construction worker has added brake fluid to a system designed for mineral oil, Although they just keep operating the tractor till it has no brakes, Scary to say the least, But by the time I get it this chemical brew has turned into a gelatinous goo and has actually started corroding the metal parts, Nice Huh? You don't want to know how much it costs to replace a complete brake system on a tractor, If fact I doubt you want to know how much it costs on a regular passenger vehicle, Had you noticed your mistake before you let the mineral oil be introduced to the rest of the system by applying the brakes, you could have just removed the reservoir and drained it or syphoned then flush the system, Why you added power steering fluid before the caliper was hooked is anyone's guess, but now that these two are in the system, there not going to play well and will do bad things,
If you bleed all 4 brakes, you should be alright,
Ok, Get at least two quarts of brake fluid and starting at the right rear bleed that wheel until you get clean brake fluid and no bubbles. Go to the left rear and repeat. Third wheel will be the right front then finally the left front. A little time consuming but worth the piece of mind knowing its right and your going to stop, you know?
Hi I have a 99 explorer ohv I recently just replaced my brakes and one of my calipers locked so I replace it. Now I put every thing back together and I guess I was tired and poured power steering in master cylinder like a dumbass I poured about under a quarter of power steering but It drain out due to the caliper being off now the master cylinder has cap swollen up the truck drives normal and Im thinking should I flush all brake fluid and put new brake fluid or just replace brake lines calipers abs and master cylinder HELP!!. Ps the brakes feel fine good pressure and stop distance just swollen cap I replace the cap it swollen up again but not as bad as the first cap when I bleed the brakes yesterday should still be worried.
