I did some research as I read Fram was junk. After reading a lot I came to the decision that the Purolator PureONE is a good filter. Has to be the PureONE, not some other less expensive model they sell. I'm sure there are other ones but this seemed to be a good value.
The research you read was baloney. Published a decade ago and based on phoney studies. Read this article on FRAM
All filter companies make different quality levels. The Extended Guard series is one of the best filters you can buy. But if you want another brand, choose WIX or Purolator Gold.
But do yourself a favor and at least make the decision based on facts

I have a 2002 olds alero. I use mobil 1 extended performance oil. But i don't like the fram oil filters that most places around here use.
