Thermostats don't just go bad, they wear out, like an old rubber band. If the coolant is not flowing through and causing the motor to overheat, you may have other problems, such as:
Clogged Radiator
Worn out Water Pump/ Bearing
Faulty Cooling Fan
Wrong type of Coolant / Mixture
Not enough Coolant
Is the thermostat installed in the correct direction (with flow)?
I have a 2001 vehicle with an original thermostat, 97,000 miles on the car. What makes you think the thermostat of this car is not working? You give no evidence just a complaint.
Buy STANT brand, not MotoRad
I've only had two thermostats go bad in over 40 years of working on cars. They both had the same problem. The temp went unusually high for the initial heat up cycle, then worked fine. There were sticking closed and finally popped open.
Don't know what your symptoms are.
Have they come out with a thermostat that won't go bad in these things? I've had to replace this like 3 times already and I'm tired of it.
