Whether this is worth it depends on what you can get a mechanic to do the job for, vs the value of the car.
A newer car is probably the best option really unless you have contacts and can get a cheap replacement.
These is nothing you will be able to fix yourself.
You need to take it to a mechanic. It is likely that your torque converter needs to be replaced and you may have to just scrap the entire transmission. At which point it's likely not worth investing that much money into a 15 year old car.
Time to get a new one.
Automatic transmissions are full of witches & trolls, so nothing for a layman to mess with. Take vehicle to a auto tranny pro - He has magic that is powerful enough to deal with them.
You probably have a very simple problem, but you can't explain it. Seek professional help.
My car, a 15-years-old TOYOTA with electric windows, has problems with the automatic transmission.
The park position doesn't work anymore and I always have to set the e-brake (that I don't trust). Furthermore, when I give gas the engine goes over 3000 RPM, even if I give a little bit of gas, but the car accelerates slowly.
In highway I do have to floor the throttle, so the engine goes even over 7000 RPM. When it shifts, it slows to 6000 then it comes to 7000 and so on, until I reach the wanted speed: I release the throttle and the engine goes down to 1000 RPM
How to do?
