That sounds like your torque convertor went out.In a nutshell, your engine puts power to your tranny and your tranny puts power to the wheels in automatic cars. So before you decide to buy a new trans or take it to a shop and have them over-diagnose it so they can drain your wallet, I'd have a new torque convertor put in.

Hi automatic gearboxes are far more complex that many understand. when in motion neutral should never be used it saves nothing and does make the car very unsafe. inside an automatic gearbox is clutch like material which does a similar job which could be damaged due to being put into neutral so time to get it checked out a maker of the car dealer.

Man coasting down a hill won't **** it up. You sure that's it? When your in Neutral everything's disconnected. Simply rolling, just as if the engine was off.. coasting is a myth I promise... now if you put it in reverse, or in park... I've heard of people having problems like this in toyota corollas shortly after changing the tranny fluid....

Your owner's manual will tell you to never coast in neutral as it may damage the transmission. 'Nuff said!

This one could be down to you. NEVER Coast in an automatic, especially at 70mph!

If it's smelling, try changing the fluid and internal filter.

I brought a 2002 honda civic yesterday and i was coasting down a hill in neutral for a mile at 70mph, i drove the car for another 150 miles then today all of a sudden it would not engage any gear. I checked the fluid and that's fine. When it happened the car would just rev then there was a smell like a burning clutch, Have i caused this by using neutral and what damage would it have caused.
