tipping is not for employees. its for contract workers because contract workers are not reimbursed for the expenses they incur to do the job or have the job like employees are. Its also for service people who make far below the minimum wage, like restaurant servers.
No they do not expect a tip and I wouldn't do it either. ITs part of their job. Installing a battery can be done in less than 1 minute.
It depends on the employee. They are not supposed to take tips but some guys will if your not terribly obvious about it. I usually leave a 5 spot on the engine somewhere and let them know that its for them. As long as the manager doesn't see them they usually take it and are stoked to have it. I worked at a tire and oil change shop for years and the tips got me through to the next payday. The last guy was so happy about it. He said he was broke and had no money for lunch. I would try, all they can do is say no. I think its cool of you to inquire about this. Its refreshing to see someone giving a **** about someone else!
You purchased it from them then the installation is free! Don't they just rock! It's part of their job.
Hey...if the person did the job, fast & criendly...a couple or 5 bucks is a nice
Gesture....
They can always say no.
The installation is free and they are not supposed to accept tips. That is not to say that if they are very nice and helpful you can't offer them one away from prying eyes.
I am going to get a new battery from autozone, most autozone install car parts for you after the purchase, so the question is, do they expect a tip or is the installation free?
