He may feel his masculinity is threatened or is insecure in relationship if worried about somebody else doing work for free!
Understand your position and balance of relationship trust versus professional work.
I would allow him to do work on understanding anything goes wrong..he pays to have it fixed by a mechanic.
Little ought to occur. Common issues folk make is incorrect refitting of anti squeal and rattle shims/ springs.
Brake pads and rotors are not that difficult to do but there are a few tricks that can help reduce squealing and increase durability. You could let the bf do it but if the wannabe bf will do it for free, and he's a real mechanic, I'd be all over it.
Your boyfriend is too insecure to do this job. He should go with you to have it done by your friend with experience. Take a cold 6 pak with you for a little gratitude celebration after the work is done. Everybody wins.
Easy, but I do disc brake jobs at least once a day. Takes me more time to get my tools laid out, lift the car and zap the wheels off.
It definitely is a lot easier to work on disc brakes than drum brakes. Just make sure you put some brake grease on the appropriate parts and torque the fasteners when done and you'll have a safe ride.
I think so. It usually takes me more time to assemble the tools & jack-up the car then to do the actual work.
My car needs rotors and break pads and I know a mechanic that will do it for me for free. I bought the parts I need but my boyfriend has a problem with the other guy doing this for me and insists that he should do it. My boyfriend is not a mechanic and has only installed break pads once on his bmw. I want to respect my boyfriend but I also want a safe car... so my question is how easy is it to I stall break pads and rotors? Is my boyfriend able to do it safely?
