Steering possibilities:
Power steering fluid-$14
Power steering belt-$20

Grinding noise possibility
Brake Pads-$35
Cars built in the past 25 years did NOT leave the factory with $20.00 organic (fast wearing) brake pads. More than likely your car has ceramic pads. Don't be surprised if the worn out brake pads are chewing up the rotors. Steel brake pad backing plates are grinding up the cast iron brake rotors.
grinding is the brake pads worn all the way down, replace them before it cuts too much into the rotor, otherwise you will have to replace the rotor, not a big deal but still more money.
tight steering is probably low power steering fluid
I get my pad and rotors at rockauto.com or sometimes ebay
if you get a mechanic to test drive it he will tell you immediately , it's better than having a steering rod break on the freeway or the brakes fail

This is hard to explain so I ll do my best. When I drive my car something just doesn t feel right. My steering wheel gets tight at times and its like when i turn the wheel the steering wheel turns but the wheel doesn t (well it turns but its kinda off). On top of that, when i hit the brakes it makes this ugly noise as if something is grinding together. I know a lot of you may say take it to a mechanic but I at least want to get an idea of what the problem is and whats its going to cost b/c I am a broke college student lol & a lot of places charge just to figure it out. If I already knew (or had an idea) of what the problem was that would make things a lot easier. Thanks in advance!
