Antifreeze in gas tank?

Sounds like you may have killed the fuel pump. Do you hear the whining that a fuel pump makes when you click the key to the on position ( not the start position )? Or maybe there just is not enough fuel to bring up the required pressure to start it with only adding a half gallon. Have you tried to add another couple gallons to see? And I do not think some residual antifreeze would cause this issue.

The container was completely empty, I vigorously shook it while open to make sure that every drop was out.

The half gallon should be enough, I ran out of gas back in march as well, only had a 20oz water bottle to fill up with gas, through that in and it started and drove for about 2 miles to the next gas station.

And no, no grade, those don't exist in Florida :)

I haven't put in more gas just yet, not sure if it would be a waste of time or not if the fuel lines, injectors etc are contaminated.

The film of anti-freeze has nothing to do with the problem---assuming you really emptied the container. You say you put in 1/2 gallon. If the vehicle were parked on any kind of grade1/2 gallon might not reach to the fuel intake point. Have you added several gallons to the tank and tried it again??

Running out of gas in a modern car is very bad news. I agree that traces of antifreeze are not a problem (undiluted antifreeze is technically flammable, an alcohol) so I would look for other issues. My first concern would be a dead fuel pump, the casualty of losing both cooling and lubrication when it ran without gasoline.

put your ear by where the gas goes in have someone try to turn the car over.. you should here gas being pumped. you may need to check you fuel pump relay as well

There is no way that anti freeze can get into the gas tank through he regulator.

not enough fuel in the tank

Yesterday, I was driving my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and ran out of gas. Needing something to fill with gas to bring back to my jeep, I took a gallon container of antifreeze, dumped out ALL of the antifreeze, made sure there was not a drop in it and filled the container half full with gas to bring back with me. When I put the half gallon of gas in my truck and started it, it would not start, was only cranking. Eventually after many tries, it started, drove two miles down the road, then died.

It hasn't started since.

I do believe that antifreeze can screw up combustion in your engine, but I believe it would be several ounces plus, not some residual film of it possibly left on the sides of the container unless I'm mistaken

Anyone have any answers to this problem, solutions?

Thanks!
