Am I harming my car by driving on a wheel that makes a grinding sound?

Brake pads are silent against the rotors. When the pad is gone the back of the pad which is metal hits the rotor. The car still stops but is noisy like yours. You will need new rotors. The rotors can actually wear away and the situation will worsen and could fail. Your actually putting lives at risk young man.

It could be as simple as a bent dust shield scraping against the rotor. Or it could be a serious brake problem.

And you've been driving it this way for how long? And just NOW you're starting to worry?

Geez. Get it checked out ASAP. And let us know where you live so we can stay off the roads when you're driving.

That is prolly a brake noise and you need new brakes shoes or pads. And the grinding is all about you spending more to get your rotors turned, or new ones.

I had that exact problem. But mine was not that loud. One morning I sprayed it with WD40! It was just the sake of trying. It happens to have solved my problem.

It can be something else that needs attention. But I wouldn't mind to give WD40 a try!

If this is really a serious question, you should consider giving up driving!

Okay so here's the story, I came back from a week long vacation, and out of the blue the one wheel on my car makes this loud grinding sound when I press the brakes and some times when I first set off.

I believe it was damaged in a low speed collision that I had during a bad snow storm this past winter. I don't know for certain that the accident did this, but it definitely didn't help.

Am I putting my car at risk of serious long term damage if I don't fix this ASAP?
