Alternator replacement?

Auto Zone electrical parts are terrible! Open your phone book and look for an AC-Delco Dealer or distributor. Their AC-Delco re-manufactured alternators have a lifetime warranty. Every part inside the re-used aluminum frame is brand new.

I'm late to this party, but whenever there is any question about engine ID on a US built domestic vehicle, drag out your insurance registration card and note the 8th character of the VIN number. That is the Engine ID.

It doesn't matter. The same alternator is used in both. The book lists the alternator for the engines separately but the guy at Autozone was just too lazy to check that the same part number is used in both engines.

Just take the alternator to the store and match up the mounts, wire connections and pully size and offset. They probably only have a couple for your motor.

It should be stated under the hood ether on the motor itself or the ID label that is usually located above radiator. If your going to do it yourself I would save money and just bring it to your local auto Electric repair center. It could save you like 20%? And you would not need to answer any questions. They will rebuild the one you have and you just reinstall it.

I am changing the alternator on a 99 ford explorer 4WD, v6 how do i know which alternator goes to it? The guy at autozone asked if my truck had an over head valve or an over head cam how do i know which is has?
