In the morning I added another 5 quartz of oil to the car so I could drive it to a mechanic in the same city I am. By the time I got there, the oil was almost gone, as I had imagined.
I didn't buy this car. It is my mother's. My car is in another state waiting to be transported over here. Not a fan of Volvo. I love my Japanese and Korean cars. However it is "my" car for the time being.
Anyway, my cost is $1407 total.
lj1 is correct but, by your description, you got oil on the way. Damage occurred right there. I would bet you had no intention of towing it to the shop and yet this is your only hope of not killing this engine FURTHER.
People don't realize when they buy special cars that they are increasing the number of mechanics that won't touch them. German stuff has the same reaction. Good luck.
Could be a base fee of $50 or so to tighten the oil plug that was left loose at the last oil change.
Then again it could turn into a $3000 engine replacement.
Probably something in between those two extremes. Just make sure you check the oil and top it off before you start the car, on a long drive I'd stop periodically and check it again. Carry several quarts of oil with you to refill as you go. Or consider having the car towed to the mechanic if its leaking too quickly.
How complex and expensive the repair will be depends on whether or not there was any damage to the internal components of the engine (cam shaft, pistons, etc.). Based on your description, there is a pretty good chance that your engine is toast.
Whatever you do, do not attempt to start your car again. If by some miracle, your engine isn't ruined, trying to run it again could finish it off. Make arrangements to have your car towed to the shop. Again, DO NOT attempt to start your engine until a mechanic tells you that it is safe to do so!
check the oil level before you drive it.
every time
My car is a 2001 Volvo Cross Country Wagon.
That being said, none of the local car repair shops will look at it. They want me to go 45 minutes south to a Volvo specialty shoppe.
My issue:
My car's oil light came on and told me to stop engine now. It also started smelling. There was no oil in it but I still have 1,000 miles to go before I am due for another change.
I add oil in it on the way home. Now it squeaks as I drive. I parked in the driveway and watched it drip oil from under the right side front seat area. Dripping away as if it doesn't care how much time or money I will be putting into it.
The Volvo place cannot see me today or tomorrow. I work tomorrow so this is unfortunate. I am supposed to bring it in on Saturday.
About how much money you think I will be putting back into this stupid car? Will it be a simple fix so I can go to work on Monday?
