so take it back and see what they have to say. if they ask for your fathers contact details can you contact him as the deal might have been sold as seen so check with him there might not be any warranty. so then you would have to pay for the spares and brake parts. it does need to be seen by a land rover dealer as they have certain ways of doing such things. as the disks also have a separate insurance on them which the land rover makers paid for.
An LR4 is hard on its brakes as it is a heavy car. Also if it has been used off road or in snow he traction control really hammers the brakes.
This is why you should get it from a dealer or a specialist.
Changing the brakes is not too bad a job but knowing how to reset the electronic parking brake is different.
If this is not done right it will jam and need a dealer to sort it out. The motor can also fail and that is officially a body off job to change.
Even a good specialist has to partly lift the body to do one.
Look at in excess of $1500 for a parking brake motor change.
Properly cared for the motors last forever.
Buy New Brake Pads and Rotors. If the rotors are not too worn and are with in service specs have them turned. Ceramic Brake pads go for around $50-$60.
it needs new brake pads and rotors , any normal person could have seen that before buying , never buy without expert advice
Hi everyone
My dad owns a 2010 Land Rover LR4 HS (The V6 engine).
He bought it last mouth for $36.000 and it only did about 58.600km, and a week later he had to travel for work.
And up until the last two days while I was driving it, I started to notice the sound (in the front right wheel) you hear when either: the brake disks or the brake pads are worn out.
I ignored it at that time and said (in my head) that it will be gone soon but today the sound got more intense (stronger). So I stopped the car and tried to see whats causing this sound.
And I saw that the remaining brake pad had almost 5 % of the hole pad, and the disk's surface was eaten and had a lot of scratches and some sort of shiny metal powder, so I checked the other 3 wheels and they too had almost 5 or 10% of the brake pads but the disks seemed normal to me.
Is it safe to keep using the car until my dad returns? and if so how longer?, or could some serious injury to the car take place (happen)?
And if I should change any part, should It just be all the brake pads and the one damaged disk alone?, or should I change the all the disks and pads?
And could you tell me how much all of the parts might cost me?
Thanks a million.
