Oh and I had the fuel pressure checked it's fine.
Doesn't sound like an alternator to me, since it still cranks good, it just won't start. I agree with you about the fuel pump, but you really should go and get it tested. Those Vortec engines are really sensitive to the correct fuel pressure. Just a few pounds low, and it won't start.
Sounds like an alternator issue to me which could be affecting your starter as well.
Some days it sputters when accelerating others it's fine. Occasionally it won't start, just cranks and cranks. I replaced the fuel filter and it didn't help. Thinking pump but when they mess up they go all at once I thought. Today it just died while driving, first time for that. It's a 5.7 4x4 automatic 97' silverado. Any advice would help as my next step is going to be plugs and wires. Then I guess pump. It would just be nice if someone knew what it was before I spent a lot of money on random fixes that don't do the trick. Thanks.
