The "maintenance required" light is just for oil changes. Not anything more serious than that. Each time you get the oil changed it must be manually reset. Most oil change places do this for you but sometimes they forget. The light will come on about 5000 miles after the last time it was reset. So if you know that the oil was change recently then you just need to reset the light. Read in the owners manual how to do it.
The OBDII code readers are for a "check engine" light. That is completely different thing from what you have and indicates a problem with the engine that needs to be repaired.
Ooooops ... ToyoTa! I have not had the oil changed recently, I've had the car for 1 1/2 years so I believe my last oil change was 6 months ago. I am hoping this is all it is, although the car felt a bit sluggish this morning as I was driving it.
It should be 'Toyota' (although if you have a 'Toyoda' that may be part of your problem).
If it hasn't had an oil change in the last 5,000 miles or so, it is definitely ready, but it could be a sign of a number of things (some serious, some serious if not fixed, and some that are probably negligible).
Autozone used to have a OBDII code reader that would give you a number you could look up to see what the deal was (and most importantly - to clear the codes and turn off the light). I think they had to stop (manufacturers and shops probably didn't like having people be able to clear their own codes), but some stores still have one, and you might be able to sweet talk them into letting you use it.
you should change your oil and filter at 2000 miles
My 2007 toyoda yaris "maintenance required" light is on. Wondering why, would it be in need of an oil change or could it be a bigger problem?
