How sad and tragic is this? You have no clue what this battery icon means because you have not read the car manual. You did not search online. You did not ask a mechanic. The battery icon comes ON each time a car is started. Each time. When the ignition is set past ACC to ON this activates the circuits required to start the engine. Many icons in the dash do a self test as to the light bulbs and then go out. Just a few remain ON. The battery icon is one of them because it means the battery is the only source of power to the vehicle. This light HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STATUS OF THE BATTERY. The battery you replaced was probably OK but it was drained since the alternator was not charging it because either the alternator stopped working or because the belt that makes the alternator work is gone. This battery, if the alternator is bad, shall also be drained soon. IF the alternator checks OK and any mechanic or person with a voltmeter can check the voltage in the system, then the warning light system has malfunctioned. Highly unlikely but it happens. Go to a mechanic. This simple rule is violated by the thousands per day resulting in more expensive repairs.
If the battery was replaced and the light stays on then you have a bad alternator take it and have it checked more than likely it will be bad
Maybe not only your battery was fault, but the power generator (alternator) does not generate enough power. You need to check it, it has to give 13 - 14 V when running.
Sounds like bad alternator to me. Some places check it for free.
My battery died and after a couple jumps, the car shut off while driving. Another attempt at a jump failed and a new battery was put in. Now, the battery light stays on constantly. What does this mean and what is the impact of it? Thanks.
