Fanswitch, vs. ECT vs Temperature sender.

After I i.d. which switch is which, then i can compare the readings for fanswitch that is immersed in coolant on any vehicle.

See what parts you have on yours because the location of parts can be giving the engineer what he was looking for to

1) trigger the fan to run

2) tell the ecm the coolant temp.

3) make an indication on the gauge.

Knowing your way around the cooling system switches and their controls can be a huge help.

I have seen vehicles with fan speed controllers

That were unknown to us till we sought the components in the schematic.

Sorry if this info is not exactly specific to your z.

If your ecm IS your fanspeed controller, I still think you need the schematic for your system.

people confuse the part names and terminology on this all too often.

Like jimmy says "could be the coolant temperature sensor"

Then he tells you to unplug "the switch"

Identify what does what and where it is first is my answer.

Then you will KNOW when you figure it out.

UPDATE, you say you have both relays working? then it should already run.

If you jumper the circuit there; the fan should run. The a/c fan may not if you deleted anything. You have a schematic? The service codes read? This info is free at the public library in ways you can print or copy to take in the garage for a dime a page.

If power and ground are present at the fan, wiggle the connector.

GM keeps using less metal and more plastic. Inspected all the components? located every component? now inspect each connection, please. and force the fan with jumper wires ( as a bench test)

Okay first off thank you for the advice. I replaced the coolant sensor and both fan relays in the fuse box are both working. Fans are still not coming on automatically. Some other important things to note about the situation that may impact this is that all a/c components have been removed for a supercharger.

Could be the coolant temperature sensor or the connection. If you disconnect the plug at the switch the "check engine light" should come on with the fans.

challenging thing. query with search engines like google. just that can assist!

I had both fans hooked up to a manual switch so that I could turn them on at any time and now I took it apart to put them back on auto but they never kick on when the temp gets up. Checked both relays and reconnected the fan wires back to normal and nothing..! What's goin on here, any help is appreciated. Thank you.
