I have oil running into my air filter and box. What could be the problem? 1988 jeep cherokee 4.0 auto

Sounds like you have Blow-by which occurs when the explosion that occurs in your engine's combustion chamber causes fuel, air and moisture to be forced past the rings into the crankcase or to pass valve covers into engine air filter box.

Your engine's rings must maintain an excellent fit in order to contain the pressure.?

There must be vacuum line connected to it that is backing up. Is the oil way over filled?

Or maybe there is crankcase vent hose that is fully clogged. Maybe a check PCV check valve is bad

Just a few things to check on. Maybe a Jeep person has more specifics.

Replace PCV valve.

oil over filled - pcv valve - valve guide seals / valve guides worn - worn / broken piston rings - scored / damaged cylinder wall

are you smoking blue, maybe you have a bad valve seal
