.......sorry, but no one "made" her rent a car.
Yes, unless she is driving a Ferrari, in which case it was a great deal. Learning to do maintenance on your own car can save you many thousands of dollars. I would think a regular brake job shouldn't have been over $500-$800, but if you do it yourself, it can be as little as a few hundred dollars.
HELL YEAH WT H... I just got new break pads yesterday for 40$ n installed em muself in less than 30 minutes!!! Maybe u also needed to get the rotors n evrything... But even then TOPS itll be 200$.
This is why an individual should make at least a half assed attempt to learn at least the basics about the vehicle they drive. Someone, anyone could have called around and asked other places about the cost of a brake job. Next up, contact your state attorney general office, any local tv news that has some kind of citizen advocacy team, and plaster this crap all over facebook. If pepboys has a FB site, plaster it on there too. Speak up and speak up loud or others will roll over your mom like these guys did.
Without knowing what she drives and seeing the itemized invoice, hard to say.
If ABS needed work, could be a fair price. If other work was done as well, it could easily total $1200.
Heck, my GF brought her car in to a chain shop and got a $2500 estimate for work. I did it for under $500 and a day of free time.
It would help if you mentioned what year, make, and model your mom owns. It would also help if you mentioned what exactly needed to be done ( such as replacing the calipers perhaps).
No one can "make you" rent a car. If the vehicle was being worked on all day and you mom needed a car, it was her choice to rent one. Pep Boys did not force her to do so against her will.
Yup, that is at least triple what a full brake job would cost on just about any automobile.
my mom went to get our brakes changed at "pepboys" in georgia and they charged her 1,200 for it plus they made her rent a car for a day because they were doing the brake change. were they overcharging her??
