The knock when stationary could be worn components in the steering gear and the 'whirring' noise could be the CV joint, but it needs a garage to do a full inspection of the components..
Hi yes the knocking sound is play in the cv joints that is true however what do you expect from a 2002 car really is the answer after several thousand miles as well. so yes it would whine a bit also. there is no other way you could be aware of wear. so you could replace parts that would rectify the noise in the drive train.
however as this is now a 12 year old car is it worth it a newer car might be a better option.
the 2 are not related most likely. your rear hub is prime for the whir, and any number os suspension components will be your knock. just guessing with experience. possible front hub as well, but they usually start grinding
Sounds like your power steering fluid is low (whining) and the power steering pump is going bad (knocking) to me.
Hi all when my car is stationary and i move the steering wheel i hear a knocking sound, there is also a constant whirring noise when i am driving. Could this be a driveshaft bearing problem or wheel bearing, any help is much appreciated.
