02 Vet Belt is squeaking. Does this mean it needs replacement ?

Not necessarily. when it squeaks, it is usually the serpentine belt tensioner pulley that's making the noise, not the belt itself. Those tensioner pulleys only cost anywhere from 10 to 40 bucks, and you can put them on yourself. When you replace the belt tensioner pulley, take the serpentine belt off, and check to see if it has any tears or cracks or anything while you have it off. If it does, throw it and get a new one, after you have the tensioner pulley back on, throw on the new belt and it should be fine. If that isn't the problem, check your AC belt tensioner and do the same steps with the AC belt.

I own a 03 c5 vette today, and owned 3 of them. My belt squeeked also. Usually what it means is the previous owner replaced the belt with a cheaper model. The oem ones can be $60. The generic ones are around $18. The non oem ones are not cut exactly to specs usually and may not fit perfect on the wheel it is riding on. The main culprit is usually the ac belt. I just changed mine because of the same squeeling every morning when it started. It went away after about 30 mins because the rubber belt expands when heated with friction. Very inexpensive to replace. Parts and labor under $80. It's a 20 minute job. If the serpentine belt is squeeling about the same labor but the belt is about $75. The tire pressure sensors go bad. Mine did on 2 cars. The batteries in them die out and the cars computer monitoring system can't read the sensors. If you have a message on your display that says service tire monitoring system then one or more of your sensors is dead. They are about $60 and $25 labor.

Ron A I didn't need the rude remark. I had it checked out and it was the pulley. I can't do the work myself but was referred to a great mechanic. Thanks for all of you that answered!

It's probably the belt. Cheap to replace. Did you think to maybe research your purchase prior to buying it?

I bought a Vet and of course the dealer RIPPED me off but I take all the blame. When I start the car and drive, the belt seems to make a squeaking noise. Does that means it needs to be replaced? How much am I looking at? Also the sensors in the tires need to be checked out. Are those mandatory to have on a Vet? I never knew they even existed. And don't say, "Don't buy a car if you can't fix it." Overall it runs like a beauty and is a head turner. I love it. Im a female and I know how males like to over charge women. Let me know please! Bless you!
