Locate the Blue 2 wire connector under the bottom of the glove box. The wire colors are Red and Green/Blue. Jump the connector (no special tool needed), turn on the key and count the number of flashes on the check engine light. Long flashes are 10's and short flashes are 1's. There are no separator codes.
If there are no codes stored in the system, the check engine light will not flash!
NOTE: A misfire (plugs, wires) is not going to set a check engine light on a 1992.
Post the code # you get in the comment, then i can give you the right test for the code.
Did you check the engine like the light said?
As MasTec says, you can (and should) check it yourself. His procedure is correct and the details - including the code table - are in the source. To know what it probably means is wrong, tell us the code(s).
The most common reason for older Accords to have the light come on is the distributor. There is a cam and crank sensor inside the distributor, also a bearing, these things go bad. A new distributor comes complete with new sensors, module, cap and rotor. All for about $135. at any good auto parts store.
There are dozens of reasons for that light. Some as simple as a loose or bad gas cap, or as serious as engine problems. You need to take your car to a mechanic who can hook up an OBD scanner to look at the code that indicates exactly what the problem is.
A lot of reasons, you should go an auto shop and let them run code to figure out.
You should check the Engine
I have a 92 accord. The check engine light came on yesterday. It came on belfry and when I was brought to a place they said there was nothing wrong and to drive around. After about 2 weeks the light went off and I never saw it again till now. I know my spark plugs have oil in them. I am fixing that this weekend. I am wondering if that could be the reason why the light is on. Cause the car drives the exact same as it always has. Nothing had changed. I also have a oil leak that I am fixing this weekend too. And I just installed a thermostat with no problem. But the light came on before I got the thermostat in. If you can help me please let me know what it could be.
