Why don't the USA switch to the metric system?

The metric system is much easier for every one and i think its time for us to change to the metric system.

Quick - divide a pizza into 10 parts evenly - not 6, 8 or 12.

A push was made to metrify (if that's a word) the USA in the 70's and was killed when the metrification board was defunded by Reagan and killed off.

Ironically, the globalization of trade means that virtually every car made and/or sold since about 1980 in the USA has metric fasteners and is built to metric measure.

People in the USA use whatever they need. There is no point in forcing anyone to use either system. Today almost all industrial activity uses metric measurements. And today we have calculators so the biggest problem converting back and forth is mistakes. Things like gas mileage have never caught on in metric but soda pop is sold in metric. The country, ie land, was carved up into 1 mile sections and that is not going to change. How tall are you in metric? How tall are you in feet and inches? What do you weight in Kgm and pounds?

Your don't should be doesn't. The reason is a bit obscure so many native speakers make the same error. USA started the transition to the metric system at least 70 years ago and the engineering collages have mostly switched to SI which seems to be much the same except for using kilograms instead of grams for force and Newtons for weight.

There's too much money invested in the imperial system in terms of machine tools, packaging equipment etc.

Besides, Yanks think anything invented by the French must be unpatriotic and effeminate, like quiche or white wine.

But US scientists do use the metric system, same as scientists anywhere.

All the research that is available is in the FPS system. The process of conversion may take decades of repeated research which can result in halting of new inventions to a great extent. And also imagine your clock having 10 hours everyday and 100 minutes every hour. Yes, that's the point.

Which metric system should we use? There are three of them.

Your horrible English scared the metric system away.
