Depends how it's written.
(-6)^2= 36
-(6)^2= -36
if the negative is inside the parentheses it gets squared. If it is outside , it doesn't and you will have a negative answer.
it would be positive.
Because -6 squared is the same way of saying
-6 * -6
and a negative times a negative is positive
the answer is +36
-6^2 (squared) means you multiply -6 by itself twice and that would equal POSITIVE 36 because a negative times a negative equals a positive.. Did that help?
-6 * -6 = +36.
Multiply any two negative numbers together, and you get a positive number.
36
-6 = 6*-1 >> -6^2 is 6*6*-1*-1 >> 6*6=36 >> -1*-1=1 >> 36*1 = 36
-6^2 equals -36. There is no doubt about this. order of operations is: Parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. In this case, the exponent is performed first on 6. *Then* the multiplication of -1 is performed. Thus we get -36. If parenthesis had been used, then the answer could have been different depending on where the parenthesis were.
would it be a positive or negative? & why? Please help, thanks!
