If you mean the Cheaper insurance "Black Box" It will be connected to various things like speedometer, Rev counter but may include a G Force indicator or GPS system.

So far, cars don;t have "black boxes" in the sense that aircraft do. They DO have ECM (Electric Control Modules) or whatever that automaker calls his computer that controls things.
These days, they control the engine and transmission. Emission controls primarily, but every aspect of the engine operation is controlled by modern ECMs - mixture, timing, even the starting process on many cars. Transmission shifting is also controlled.
The impact sensors, throttle position, brake stats, direction, and all the basic engine and suspension conditions.
Just about everything important so no you can't remove it.
