The plastic accordions are on the left and right sides and keep the AC in place.
There is foam that is usually included to put into open areas.
Sometimes old newspapers will do the trick.

air vents / vents? yr question is really confusing. heater / ac on at the same time - cant be.
Like for example the ac doesn't fit all the way across or its too small for the window. What can I use to cover so hot air won't go through the openings while the a.c. is on?
