Find "COUNTRY BOY" and t4ext him! He is a REAL GM guy! There are BEEF UP kits for the TURBO GM TRANNIES from several companies! IT is a BASIC trans and pretty strong! IT does NOT have SOLENOIDS or pother GIZMOs In it! Check internet for GM TRANS rebuilders. 500 is WAY TOO MUCH POWER! I would get a 350 Z/28 engine and modify it slightly instead! All you will do is SPIN TIRES and leave ONE WHEEL TIRE MARKS with it! To get power to the wheels EVENLY is a real engineering talent that GM never mastered! The original 350 GEN I engine had LIMITATIONS BIG TIME! Small CAM opening and unusual deck height, another! HYPEREUTECTIC PISTONS generally are NOT used for racing! They have SILICON CONTENT in them and are mostly used in NEWER ENGINES FOR EMISSIONS purposes! SILICON helps a piston to expand and contract ast EVEN KEEL with block stretching as the engine WARMS UP! GOOD LUCK!!
Go Muncie 4 speed.Babies drive automatic transmissions....
An Impala Bel Air, huh? It can be a Bel Air, or it can be an Impala, it can't be both. I guess a THM400 is your best choice, or a Borg Warner Super T-10
I have a 1963 Chevrolet Impala Bel Air four door sedan at about 3400 pounds. It has a carbed Chevy 350 engine from an old dooly truck, about 380 horsepower, and I don't wanna have to buy a new transmission when I upgrade to a 383 that's been putting out 500 horsepower. However, I also don't wanna go buy a transmission for $5,000 where a $1,500 transmission would suffice. I've gone through my whole collection and all my contacts, and I'm down to a few options... but I feel like I could find better for less price. Any suggestions?
