Salaries for software engineers vary with organizations. Some orgs pay handsome amount for freshers too. But on an average, currently most companies offer a package of 3.5 to 4 L as u said. And MBA after your engineering is a good idea. I have a friend of mine who has already become a manager as she has done her MBA and earns better than i am. Certifications also play a crucial role in salary negotiation process for a fresher. My advice, get certified before you finish your graduation and you would not have a great difficulty getting a job (if you are planning to pursue a career as an engineer). All the best

I think its depand on your knowledge but i suggestt you get your first jobe gain experience, then try to a higher packeg.

i'm just a regular guy from Delhi. Just did my class 12th with 90% and got a good rank and will be studying in a reputed engineering college of Delhi. So,i was just reading about the college and got to know that the average package of that college is 3.5 to 4.0 lakh (annual) .Is it good? is engineering worth it? :/ because after so much hard work ,you just get 3.5 -4.0 lakhs per year. or does the salaries rise?how high do they get? i even plan to do MBA after this. Would it affect? my parents are just graduate and they are earning around 80K per month. please help.
