Replacing brake lines?

Depends on the garage. Just because it's a Pep Boys doesn't mean it isn't sketchy. I would speak with someone and explicitly outline what you need done. You may have to push the fact that you only want the brake lines replaced, because the garage will make more money off of you if you "need" to replace more things. Be very firm but talk to them about what you need done. If they start adding on a bunch of other things, I would call another garage and talk to them. Don't be afraid to tell them no.

They are not going bill you just $8 for the brake line part . They will mark it up to $30 each.

Then prob add on junk like , " shop fee " and brake fluid and whatever they can think of.

So if they want 240 just for labor. They are prob going to give you final bill of $400 .

I would go to somplace other than Pep boys or any of those type franchise auto shops.

They sell the line with the fitting and flared. ie http://www.delcity.net/store/Hydraulic-S... You would bring in the old line and try to match the correct size and length line. You then just bend it with a tube bender to make it fit for the van. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/p...

They will prob go back to the master depending on where the brother broke it. It was leaking so it is probably all eroded. With connections and fluid it will be more than eight bucks even if you do know it is like eight bucks. We are talking the main line of stopping the car and you are worried about a few dollars?

I called pep boys, they said it would cost 120 in just labor not counting parts for EACH brake line. My brother took one of them off which was leaking and due to not having a bending tool and the right size break line couldn't be put back on.

So I want both replaced for 240 in labor + parts, but how much is parts? I know the actual line is like 8 bucks. Do they just replace the line or alot of stuff attached to the line?
