The answer you got from the lady was in KW-hrs. 5 cents per KW-hr is a pretty good rate, we pay about 10 cents per KW-hr.
In any case....
If a device is listed as drawing, say 500 watts, and is operated for 3 hours, it will consume 0.5 KW x 3 hrs = 1.5 KH-hr. at 5 cents per KW-hr, that is 7.5 cents.
Watts can also be calculated from the volts and amps listed. If a device is listed as drawing 1.5 amps at 120 VAC, then it is consuming 1.5 x 120 or 180 watts. If you run it for 10 hrs it will have used 1.8 KW-hrs, and the cost would be 9 cents.
Make sense?
She used "shorthand" - power rates are in KWH even if she uses kilowatts.
u have to find on online the explanation
Ok I just signed up for electricity at my first apartment. I was going to try to figure out how much my devices use to see how to limit myself. I asked the lady what the rate is she said 5 n a half cents per kilowatt. On a lot of the online converters it wants it in kwh. Im a tad confused and would appreciate help. Also maybe an example of how to do it without a internet app type thing...
