did you check the oil and all other fluids? Does it have gas in it (sometimes the gas gage doesn't register). You said you have an old/new trusk so which is it? The battery could be dead. If it's an old truck with high mileage then could be the engine is gone on it. It could be a bad battery (that happened to me once, their entire supply had been put together wrong). Could be your starter. I heard on some new vehicles the vehicle won't start up till you have your seatbelt on. There are two kinds of vehicles, one that starts with only the key, and one that starts where you turn the key plus gently press the starter. Try both ways. I had some kind of serpentine belt that broke and the car wouldn't start so check that as well. Are all belts in good shape?
there should be power sent to the starter relay from the neutral switch circuit.
if the truck has a manual trans it has a similar function and or they loop itr at the clutch pedal. that wire should goto the starter relay.
its located by the battery.
the positive goes there first with a short cable.
a remote start switch or jumper can be used to bypass in case you have power on the little wire when in the cranking position.
i use a 12v light. 3.99 at the part store to verify power, then look thru the opening under the hood as i check park/neutral and turn the key. jumping the starter relay proves the starter can run.
take back the parts you didnt need.
buy the simple diagnostic tools and a haynes manual
Sounds like you should get your starter, the solinoid and the alternator checked out.
old starter need to beat in
1979 is NEW to you? Are you in a time warp or something?
I am trying to get my new truck started. It's a 79 F250 400m. I replaced the battery, the coil, and the alternator. It won't crank. I go to start it and it just makes one click noise then nothing. Please help. It ran once the other day but died after about 45 seconds.
