I Suggest, contact your friends to get a Good Mechanic to figure out and work on your 1986 bmw 325e cus older models require special service/treatment and the parts will/can/may be expensive.
So if you get a Good Mechanic, consider job 50% done.
And next time, make sure you do regular checkup along with Right tyre pressure.
And keep some fuel for reserve.
OR just for the odd, try resetting your ECU unit. To Reset, just remove/unplug the battery for say 15-20 secs and the revving shud stop, but i still suggest contact a reliable Mechanic
If you ran completely out of gas then it sounds like you sucked some debris up from the fuel tank into the fuel line. Over time all cars get a build up of debris in the fuel tank and if its a 1986 I suggest you got a LOAD of debris in there. Its perfectly normal and happens to all cars. The best thing you can do is get your fuel filters cleaned and the fuel line flushed through with an air hose. Shouldn't take a halfway decent mechanic too long
did you check the oil?
Im having diffulculty in finding out whats wrong with my car. It all started whn it ran completly out of gas as i was pulling into gas station.i filled it up, and than it was reving up and down by itsself and ther was strong odor of gas and whn i put it in gear to drive the car turned off. It did same thing for an hour the car let me drive it but in order for it not to turn off i had to keep accelerating . Next day it kept reving up and down not going higher than 500rpm and ther was black smoke comin out of muffler and instead of gas smell this time it smelt of oil. I bought distributor cap&rotor, spark plugwires&sparkplugs, and ignition coil and it still the same. Im frustrated and its still same just lookin for advice thankyou vehicle is 1986 bmw 325e
