Check your oil, then do a compression check.
I'm guessing that maybe your head gasket has failed, the knocking is probably a spun bearing from lack of oil. Most likely your engine is beyond repair, not sure if your car being 17 years old is worth installing another engine.
Yes, I do.
Sounds like your engine is screwed. But it could have been caused by head gasket failure as well. Basically unless you put a junkyard engine in it you should start shopping for a new car.
the knocking noise could be because the engine got hot ! start by changing the thermostat, it could be sticking !
I have a '97 Honda Accord LX, and we think I have a water leak somewhere. So I have to constantly check my water/antifreeze. Which I can deal with, but yesterday my temperature gauge went hot so I had to pull over and pour loads of water into my car. But after all that I went to start my car and when it was idling it started knocking. Do any of you guys know what it could possibly be?
