Here’s a video on this make and model (97-03)
You can stick a flat blade screwdriver between the pads and rotor; see video at 1:53 and 2:08. You may want to use lubrication to dislodge the metal slide pins; see video at 2:45.
just use a big screw driver to compress piston . that all
Make sure car is supported securely, not just on a jack. On the caliper opposite of brake hose, you'll see a bleeder screw w/ hole or rubber cap. Loosen this.. In the gap in the caliper on top, where you can see the top of pads and brake rotor, jam a large screwdriver or small pry bar, pry back & forth to work caliper piston back into caliper. Don't worry too much about causing damage, you're gonna have to replace rotor anyway, and possibly caliper if piston is ****** in bore, along with pads. This is an easy fix,, Joe must work at a Chevy dealership.
BEFORE trying to remove the caliper drop a steel slide clamp from Sears over the caliper and screw the caliper piston back inside the caliper. If the piston will cot collapse back inside the caliper it's frozen in place because someone has never had the water-logged brake fluid changed. The caliper piston is rusted inside the caliper. It will need to be replaced.
I will assume you are following the steps in the repair manual. You may have to push one of the pads to compress the piston a bit Especially if there is a ridge on the outer edge of the rotor. I'm surprised the manual doesn't mention it.
This seems to be a common issue among the Malibu driving community, it is difficult to fix brake pads, honestly you should take it to the dealership.
My right bakes r lower thn my left I went to change my pads but after unscrewing the to bolts on the caliper it wont come off... It's like it's stuck on something I can't get the to pads to change thm out what can't I do to take the caliper off my rotor???
