"Gas" is not a pure chemical, it's a mix of all sorts of hydrocarbons. The actual percentage of those chemcials changes between the grades, and also between different refineries. So the actual chemicla mix can change between different gas stations, or even at the same station if the fuel is sourced from different places. The Octane rating is just a measure of how fast that particular mix of chemicals will burn, and hence it's tendancy to pre-detonate (ping). This can damage a higher compression engine, hence some higher performance cars need premium gas.
So just top up premium, then your tank will contain a new "medium" grade gas. Use that and fill with premium.
Avoid heavy acceleration, or running full throttle at low revs if you have low octane fuel. That's then pre-detonation will occur.
You may better run the car at low speeds till the low fuel light comes on then fill the tank with premium
It won't hurt to mix them. You can either start adding premium now or wait until you are low if it hasn't had any problems running so far.
Nothing to worry, just keep putting the recommended grade and you should be fine within two fill ups.
No it won't hurt it
be better to check you car manual, I learned that Shell and Exxon gas gets you better milage
You can mix them all that you want.
mixing is ok and wont hurt anything.
So i just recently bought a 2004 Acura tsx and i didn't realize that it requires premium gas so before that i had been putting regular gas. My question is should i let it get to E and just fill up the tank with premium gas or is it bad mixing the gases ? Or would i have to clean out the tank ?
