My choice would be the Shogun. A 10 yr old example would be the 3.2 litre Pre 'common-rail' diesel, very reliable but listen for 'rattling' timing chains on start up.
At that age condition and mileage are more important than brand. If there's little to choose then Toyota has the edge for reliability but not by much. Both would be ok.
Land Rover. World wide spares and repairs.
Hi me too even explorers like ray mears even when they have a land rover or range rover given to them. usually end up in a toyota as the rovers fail to perform. so really not a lot of choice mitsubishi are slightly cheaper and this shows up as they do tend to break down more even in england where conditions are not that bad only mud tracks and some mountian use.
so without doubt want a truck that needs little maintenance get a toyota every time.
the land rover and range rover would need spares flown in every other day. they are just so poor.
toyota surf
I am considering a 10 year old version of either car for Travelling through South America, Most of my time will be on the edge of the Amazon in Brazil, and so I was also wondering what will I so about will it be easy to fix and find parts for in that part of the world?
