Misfiring really really bad!?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
My car is misfiring. i replaced spark plugs which were shot. I put brand new spark plug wires. What is the next step i should take to solve my problem? Its an 1997 Oldsmobile aurora.

You probably have a bad coil, you will need to scan the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) first to ID what cylinder is misfiring, then you can swap the coils around, then see if the misfire follows that coil!

NOTE: The Aurora 4.0L DOHC engine has a cassette of four (4) coils on top of the ICM (Ignition Control Module)

Save time and trouble by doing and OBD2 code check. The trouble codes will tell what or where the problem is.

The exact condition of the spark plugs would help you get a better answer.

Distributor and rotor. Coil pack. Maybe loose timing chain.

bad coil. get your engine scanned for codes, you will come to know about problems for sure.

You put plug wires on in wrong firing order.

Compression test
