The springs the second place told you about is common on ford it holds the outer pad more securely so it does not pulse.
It goes to the floor since those are thin garbage they put on and those rotors were past their allowable cut thickness. And axle leak has nothing to do with the pedal to the floor.
Yes you got ripped don't go back and thank that place who put your spring on by going them future business
Midas is a national chain and have a reputation to protect. Collect your evidence and contact their corporate offices. They will make it right if your information is correct. You need to follow through to protect other drivers, if for no other reason.
He said she said and you are getting it fixed free of charge. You also incurred no other damages. There is not much you can do. Just go online and leave lots of bad reviews for that shop.
You have no case without proof and why, I must ask, is this other mechanic doing work for free? In all of my life I have never hear of this happening. What you can do is to file a Better Business Bureau complaint and do the same with the State Attorney's office. All online. As to Midas, unless you can get this other mechanic to testify in court for you and present photographs or similar evidence, you cannot get your money back. But by filing as I have mentioned other customers can know. One thing, Midas is a national company and there are other levels to complain past the individual garage. Keep complaining. Call the local TV station or media. At times they have reporters than can make a phone to investigate and under the threat of publishing this they can offer to repay you, the victim. Keep trying. Keep going back. Do not take this laying down. Tell everyone. Put this on social media. Go the Midas website and see where you can complain. Complaint to all you can. I hope you are right. Good luck.
I would call my local TV stations and tell them your story. If it makes the news they may change their tune.
Good news is you probably found a reputable mechanic.
I took my ford explorer into Midas to get the brakes done and rotors turned. After completion I drove it home and realized the brakes didn't feel right. A woman pulls in front of me and I almost hit her, I had the brake peddle to the floor and almost couldn't stop. I called Midas and they said it was because I have a rear axle leak that is leaking on my brakes but to bring it back in and they would take a look at it anyways. After that they told me they brakes were fine so a couple days go by and no change. I take it to a different mechanic who informs me that the rotors weren't turned and there were parts missing from the brakes, including springs. I'm no mechanic so I have no idea what that means other than Midas didn't do the full job I paid for. I call Midas and inform them of what I was told by the other mechanic, the manager rudely says, well we did the job right and we have 360 degree rotating cameras if you'd like to come in a watch them. The other mechanic shop said they would fix the brakes properly at no charge to me! What am I supposed to do about Midas? I am getting a print up from the other mechanic today to show the manager at Midas but I have a feeling it won't make a difference. Is this one of the situations where I have to suck it up and let them get away with it. I can't afford an attorney so I don't know what I can do.
