I've had a Volkswagen Fox and Bus, Toyota Land Cruiser and Camry and an Acura Integra and they were all between 300-400k miles. All of them still ran great when I sold them.
I'm about to sell the Camry because I bought an old Nissan Pathfinder as my work commuter and "camping truck". I have confidence that my pathfinder will out last my wife's 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan baby mobile.
I can not say the same for most American cars.
NO car lasts "forever", but one of my Mercedes-Benzes has 508,000 miles on it. The Honda Accord I had before that had 301,000 miles on it when I sold it - still running fine. It all depends on initial build quality, how one drives and maintains the car, and there is an element of random chance. But you do have a better likelihood of long, reliable service with a Japanese car. Forget Ford - that would be a big mistake.
I love my honda. my only mistake was getting the civic. it was the smallest car I ever had, and I wasn't prepared for the long commutes in that car...I wish i would have got at least the accord, as i would have appreciated the extra room, and the better ride.
not that the civic was a bad choice...GREAT mpg, maintenance-free, a dream to park. but for me, i should have at least tried the accord before i made my choice. i have 117K miles on it now, and it's not showing any sign of weakness. still a very reliable car.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new car. I put like 300 miles on my car every day, and I need a car that'll last forever. Currently I think 4 cylinder honda toyota subaru and mitsubiti are the way to go. And fords v8 engines. I encourage everyone to tell me what you think. Tell me about your experience. Thanks for helping
