Is it true that engineers have barely any free time?

Engineering is the hardest bachelor's degree program there is. Premed, architecture, none of them compare. Most of the other professions, you have to have a good memory and you can get by. But in engineering you need the memory and one heck of a good analytical ability. You not only have to come up with solutions to everything (no multiple choice type exams) but you have to come up with the right equations to begin to even solve the non stop word problems you get hit with.

Engineering students have the highest drop out rate of any degree program. If you are naturally gifted at math and get A's without a sweat, then engineering might not be so hard for you...everyone else gets their butt kicked by the curriculum

I know when Iwas going to school, the engineering library you could hear a pin drop because everyone's head was buried in their cubicles. But go over to the main library on campus, and it was like party central...groups of kids all over at different tables talking and chatting and laughing. It was almost enough to make me change majors...oh yeah..it did... I changed to chemistry and got that degree and didn't go back for 20 years until I got bored by chemistry (the industry) and finally got a mechanical engineering degree. But even without the distractions of youth...it was VERY HARD and I barely passed each engineering subject

As a student of engineering you will have limited free time.

As an engineer the amount of free time will vary with each assignment but as with most people you can make free time if you organize your work, set priorities and use self discipline.

Most companies encourage engineers to take time off to enjoy themselves. It makes them more efficient.

Not necessarily. Anyone who takes their profession seriously and wishes to be successful will find themselves with little free time. It all depends on what your doing as an engineer, how much is demanded of you, how much you are willing to put in.

One of my friends is an engineer in Australia and he actually does have a good amount of free time. I know this because he talks to me quite often and tells me that he's not busy :)

Any of them that want to be successful will not have a lot of spare time (since they will be using it to study).

Definitely not doctors!

Is it true that engineering students in addition to engineers have a lot less free time in their hands than students in other programs in addition to people in other professions such as doctors, physicists, etc?
