The squeaky whiny noise may be a bad belt tensioner pulley. It may not be tightening the belt up properly and allowing slipping, thus causing the alternator to not charge properly. I would replace that. I would also take the alternator off and bring it to an auto parts place to be tested. They may be able to test it while it is still in the car, give them a call and see. then if so, take it to be tested.
Noise could be a loose belt. A cheap way of testing if the alternator is putting out is to disconnect the ground from the battery while the engine is running. If the engine dies the alternator output is low or none and needs to be replaced.
An odd whine from an alternator means it is been damaged by improper jump starting or something shorted or battery cable disconnected when the car. was running.
The head light issues might be a fuse or a wiring problem.
To check if u have a good alternator turn car on take off battery if it stays on its good if it turns off its bad.
The squeaky noise might be a bad belt/old try to figure out how does ur belt is. And good luck
im 18 and I don't know **** about cars, but I have a 1999 ford explorer and I've been having issues with a few things for a while now. first my headlights would keep going on and off randomly, then recently my car has been making a whining noise when I accelerate its like a squeaky whiny noise. and today my car died twice, it has a new battery a new transmission. I google's my issues and I came up with either a belt issue or an alternator issue? maybe one of you guys that know more about cars then me can help and give your opinion what it might be. thanks.
