It could be a LOT of things, that's an older car and one that is actually trouble prone more than average.
I would guess its fuel related. You may have clogged filter or bad pump. See if fuel squirts out of the injection test port....oh what the heck, take it to a shop you are likely not qualified to mess with it. You need some test equipment or you're throwing time and money away.

My mom had one of those in 2002 and even then it was a giant piece of poop. I know when the timing belt broke on hers we were driving and it popped. The car kept rolling but we couldn't accelerate or start it when it snapped. Your belt may need to be replaced. If it's not that it could be a string of problems that could be costly. Good luck!
