A Universal translator. Not just so I could tell jokes to my German speaking friends, and the jokes would come out right, in German, but so that I could put a microphone outside, in the morning, and listen to what the sparrows are Actually talking about.
English to just about any language translation, and vice versa, is fraught with problems; the subtleties of language don't always go across, smoothly.
The sparrows? The kick up such a fuss, they have to be saying something, and even if it is "Look! Another crumb!" I'd love to know.

I would invent a super fast hair dryer, like those dyson hand dryers, that you could just put your hair into and it would dry it because my hair takes so long to dry and it would just be very useful :D x
