If the hole was from road debris you can only hope the repair holds up. Putting a stop leak product in the cooling system to stop a leak is not repairing it. It's a dumb way to try and patch things so you can drive with out fixing it the right way which is replacing the radiator. The stop leak will cause more problems by plugging the heater core and the radiator tubes. If there is too much pressure in the cooling system a new radiator cap is cheap and may help unless you have a head gasket going bad. There is a chemical test for exhaust gasses in the cooling system if you want to find out for sure if the head gasket is bad.
We cannot prevent you from fixing holes in your radiator.
If its a hole due to corrosion usually its from putting just water with no radiator fluid in it. So to prevent use antifreeze.
Holes in radiator are caused by damage to it. Objects hitting it or tools or other object impacting on a radiator can result in piercing thus giving a hole.
If it's a leak ? Rather than a puncture to rad...then this can be due to failure of welded section due to poor manufacturing or corrosion, excessive pressure etc.
We can only try and ensure we don't drive on areas likely to cause such incidents eg high speeds over gravel, in forest areas where branches can poke into it. Being careful if working near rad.
What possible causes reacted this to happen ? & how can I prevent this from happening again ?
