More than that provided,

It is placed in a clean environment.

No contamination by moisture or chemicals if placed in a lab.

regular cleaning is done.

Painting is done with proper surface finish, followed by a metal primer and final coat of good quality paint.

Regular painting is done depending upon the condition.

Same precaution is taken care of for inner and outer side of the lockers.

Lubricant is used wherever required which helps in easy operation.

They'll last as long as they're maintained. They'll need to be repainted every once in a while. As long as they're kept from rusting, the metal itself will last pretty much indefinitely. The mechanical locking/latching mechanism will eventually fail from fatigue, but even this will take a long time Lockers aren't replaced very often, probably at least 30 years.

For the best performance at a reasonable cost you may want to consider galvanized sheet metal with an epoxy primer and polyurethane top coat. You can expect over 25 years of life with properly scheduled preventive maintenance.

To summarize Jason's answer... It depends. If the design is well engineered and the steel is maintained to protect from corrosion, they should last for as long as your campus lasts. On the other hand, if the design is really bad, they may not survive installation.

Indoors and dry, they'll last until the students beat them up too badly. Outdoors in the rain, ordinary carbon steel will rust quickly. Too many variables to say, really.

Hi, I have a project proposal of placing STEEL LOCKERS in our campus. It is made of steel metal. I need to know how long is the life span of steel metal? Does it take 10-12 years?
