How Can I Start Learning Electronics?

"Basic Electronics" by Bernard Grob is

supposedly available for free download.

If not, Amazon has used copies for

a couple of bucks (plus shipping).

Explore the Arduino website and

see if that sort of thing interests you.

You may want to go to the library and read electronic hobby magazines and experimentors hand books. when you find one you like subscribe to it. If it interests you take an electronic correspondence course and really get into it. This is how I became an Electronic Engineer, step by step.

I am a grad of DeVry Institute of Technology , now DeVry University. These schools seem expensive but you will learn all of it and find out if, this is what you wish to persue and can make the grade.

You can get a Masters Degree if you wish to persue that far. It isn't easy but the path is clear there is no choice of classes. Everyone follows the same path. Afterward you can persue anything you wish. I tell everyone to take a vocational apptitude test at the library and find out if this is your career field. I sense the interest from you.

Good luck in your quest.

Radio Shack has books and experiment kits that teach basic electronics. Beyond that, universities, trade schools, and the internet can help.

Download lessons in electrical engg by Kuphaldt from "discover circuits"

You can find youtube videos to learn anything.

I was just browsing sparkfun.com and saw all the awesome tutorials, components, kits, etc.

And I got to thinking, "I'd really love to learn this stuff"

So I would like to know how I should go about learning electronics.

I should say that I've got minimal experience with this stuff. I've reflowed my PS3 on multiple occasions, I've made a fan modification for it, and as such can do very basic soldering.

I can do things on a "need to learn" basis so I've stumbled upon various components, methods and theories. I have a multimeter and cheap soldering iron, so I've done a little.

But what I'd like to do is to be able to figure out what to do myself. Like if I wanted to mod the fan of the PS3 I'd like to be able to look at the board and figure out what to do. I mean yeah a little googling and what not, but I want to learn this stuff so I can embark on projects of my own and such.

I also am not afraid of programming (which probably comes much later anyway) because I've had some exposure to JavaScript, Java, AppleScript, HTML/CSS, if that helps.

So can anyone who's in the same boat as me or a pro point me to what I should definitely learn first? Any websites or books that would point me in the right direction? It would also be helpful if these resources presented electronics in a "beginner-like" manner, like easy to follow.

I really want to learn this and would like to start in one of the best ways possible.

I'd really be grateful for any help you can provide.

Sorry about the long question, but I'd like to let you know a bit of background so you'd be better able to help me.
