A) When hot and consumes 100 watt, then current = 100 / volts.

B) When cold, instantaneous current = 12 x as when hot.

C) Instantaneous power = B x Voltage.

As you do not state the voltage, they could be Any value.

I = P/E = 100/110 = .83333*12=10A in the USA P= 110*10 = 1100 W

100/230 = .435 * 12 = 5.217A where ever they have 230 V P= 1200 W

ASSUMING 115V, THE HOT CURRENT IS 132 HMS THE COLD RES IS 11 OHMS. THE CURRENT WILL BE 115/11 OR ABOUT 10.5 AMPS AND POWER WILL BE 1200 WATTS, 12 TIMES 100 WATTS.

IF VOLTAGE IS 230V ( IS THAT THE VOLTAGE IN PHILIPPINES?), THEN INITIAL CURRENT IS 0.43*12= 5.25 AMPS AND POWER WILL BE 100*12= 1200 WATTS.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF HIGH STARTING CURRENT.AND INRUSH CURRENT. THE BULB FAILS AT TIME BUT THIS HAPPENS PARTICULARLY WHEN IT IS TURNED ON.

CANNOT CALCULATE WITHOUT KNOWING THE SOURCE VOLTAGE !!!

DO NOT JUST COPY YOUR HOMEWORK QUESTION OVER HERE AND EXPECT ANYONE COULD GUESS OUT THE MISSING DATA.

A 100-watt incandescent lamp has a resistance when cold (lamp extinguished) that is only 1/12 of its hot (lamp illuminated) resistance value.

a) What is the instantaneous current trough the lamp at the moment it is switched ON?

b) What power does the lamp dissipate at this instant?
