Driving car that burns oil bad?

Engine is starting to wear out. Piston rings, valve guides etc. This lets more oil seep into the cylinders and get burnt. Keep the oil topped up and it should go for a bit longer. When you get to the stage where you have to fill up the oil, and check the petrol, then look for a good used engine from a wrecked car.

The engine can be rebuilt, but it's probably more than the car is worth.

A quart every 1000 miles is more than average - but not terrible. The old-time cures for high-mile engines that started using oil was to: 1) switch to the next heavier grade of oil, ie if you're using 5-20 now, got to 10-30....really bad in summer, go to 20-50......maybe straight 30 weight oil..............and/or switch spark plugs to a higher/hotter range to help burn-off the oil.

At 1 quart/1000 miles, switching to a heavier grade should let you get many more miles out of your car before it needs: new valve stem seals (not terribly expensive)......new valve guides (fairly expensive).....new piston rings (total engine rebuild - very expensive).

Changing to a higher oil viscosity will actually wear out the engine FASTER. But a High Mileage oil with the same viscosity may helps. Read this post on why heavier weight oil is a bad idea.

Drive her until she dies and then source another used motor and flog that one to death.

not worth fixing - drive it until it blows up.

My 02 civic with 207k miles has been burning approx 1 quart per 1000 miles. It also smokes out the exhaust upon rev. I dont know alot about cars is it bad to drive it like this? Also is it going to be worth fixing? Thanks in advance.
