My current car is a 1996, and is 18 years old.
Every car I've ever owned has had way more than 100,000 miles on it when I got rid of it.
The 2003 Jaguar and 2004 Grand Marquis I used to own were both retired with crash damaged at around 130,000 miles.
The 1995 Thunderbird I drove in college had 235,000 miles on it when I sold it.
The 1993 Grand Marquis I replaced it with had over 200,000 miles on it as well, when I sold it.
My current 1996 Thunderbird has over 170,000 miles on it, and I plan on keeping it a long, long time.
Unless there are any problems, I wouldn't worry. At ten miles per week, it would take two years to put another thousand miles on it.
It should be good for at least another 10,000 miles and at 10 miles per week, that would be 1000 weeks or about 20 years.
Those cars can easily go 200-300k miles. Just make sure you perform the regular recommended services (like oil and transmission fluid changes, timing belt/chain).
Good luck and stop worrying!
My friend sold his car at 198,000 and now wishes he had kept it. He just fancied a change
Car was still running well at that mileage.
I bought one at 250,000 miles and sold it 3 years later still going well.
It is how it is serviced and cared for that has more effect than just mileage.
"So many miles"??? LOL. I put 301,000 miles on my last Honda Accord (sold it, still ran great) and my current second car has 334,000 miles on it! You are worrying over NOTHING. Read the owner's manual and maintenance guide, drive correctly, and maintain the car diligently, and you'll be fine for another 100,000 miles!
Edit: You've replaced the timing belt, right??? Because it was due no later than 90,000 miles. If you have not replaced it, DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR except directly to the dealer or other import repair shop to get it done. Severe engine damage WILL result if the timing belt breaks.
A 2008 model of car really isn't that old. Mileage is one thing, but age is another. Consider two vehicles with the same amount of miles on it except one car is ten years older than the other. The newer car, though it has the same mileage will be in better shape simply because it has not faced the same amount of time in the elements. As long as you are keeping up with scheduled maintenance, you will be fine. VW makes a good car and you should not be worried about that car.
I drive a 2000 Honda Accord with 165,000 miles. I am not afraid of driving it because I know that I've been doing all the work on it that it needs. If you love your car, it will love you back by providing you with many many miles for years. I want to take mine to 200,000 or more miles!
Seriously, EVERYBODY drives a used car, no? Keep it maintained, it'll be OK.
If you had it serviced as recommended by VW, it should be good for 175,000 miles - at least. Of course, you will need to replace brakes, shocks, clutch (if manual).....timing belts, belts & such but it's worth it: at almost 100,000 miles your wouldn't be able to sell for much and anything a dealer would give you as a trade would be a joke. But if you like the car, plan on continuing to enjoy it. (Question: in what way would a new(er) car be superior. Probably none).
We, too, aren't driving as much as we did . . . . our 2006 Mercury Marquis has 63,000 miles on it. We take it to a trusted mechanic once a year and tell him to check it out, front to back. Last year it needed a new battery and transmission service. This year, it will be time for a cooling system flush. Big expense will be new spark plugs at 100,000 miles. We've looked at new cars of all makes - and don't like any as well!
So 7 months ago i bought a used 2008 VW Jetta. I bought it from an authorized dealer in pretty good condition.
The car currently has 99,745 miles on it and each passing month i get extremely worried about driving it.
I am afraid that since there are so many miles on it, that I shouldn't drive it much. I normally drive it like 10 miles per week as of late...
Should I really be that worried about this car?
