Does your car ac die over winter?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
it is normal for the ac to run out of refrigerant over the winter ... some one is passing the buck here. It is not normal if every thing is correctly put together. At least not normal for a 2012. I had one that I drove for 10 years before having the AC serviced and was not that low on coolant then. I have a 2007 that has never been serviced and works fine. They need to find and fix the problem as there is a dye that can be put in the unit to spot the leak. You are correct..they are just making up some dumb excuse. I also have a 2000 that does leak, but remember its a 2000 and still does not leak as bad as yours, have it serviced about every 2 years and not very low on coolant then.

The dealer is LYING to you. My wife has an 04 Camry SE And the air conditioning system has NEVER been recharged.

The procedure to locate a leak in a car AC system is very simple. This dealership is milking you. I have a 2001 vehicle and it has the gas from the factory. It is sealed. The procedure is outline in any mechanic's manual. I suggest you scream bloody murder or threaten to have this car repaired somewhere else and send this dealership the bill. Call Subaru of America and file a complain as to this dealership. Find another one if possible. SCREAM. The procedure is to charge the system to full pressure. Then a device called a sniffer is moved over the engine and the passenger compartment to detect where the leak is. Once determined, the mechanic recovers the gas, this is a federal regulation, proceeds to replace a hose, a fitting, a seal, whatever is the faulty part. Once that is replace, the gas is serviced again to full pressure. The sniffer is used again to test the replaced part. If all is well, all is well. SCREAM. File a complain with the BBB, the state attorney, anyone that is related to the car business. GET THIS DONE ASAP. Oh, to have a dealership not concerned as to the pollution of this gas into the air needs to be reported to the EPA and to Subaru of America.

They can should be using a leak detector which a very accurate at pinpointing leaks. If they tell you they can't

find a leak then they are not doing their job. Take your car to a mechanic. Not a dealer. A mechanic will find the leak and fix it. It is a closed system and should not need charging unless it was damaged.

That is absolute crap. I had my last car for 12 years, and I never once had to charge the A/C. My current vehicle is 8 years old, and the A/C still puts out ice cold. It has never needed to be re-charged, either. The same goes for my mom's car, and it's 14 years old!

Find another Subaru dealership, and take it there. The people you have been dealing with are lying to you.

it is a closed system and should not leak.

your dealership is lying to you.

Ya, I have a car that has a very slow leak and I have to have it charged up before summer, Cost me $25 to charge it, does not need vacuumed just charged.

I just got back from the dealership for the 4th time because my moms ac is no longer working again. The dealership recharged the system twice now and can't find any leaks. The warranty is almost up on the car ( Subaru Forster 2012) and the dealership says that it is normal for the ac to run out of refrigerant over the winter and that it needs to be recharged every year. From all the cars we have had including 2 more Subarus we currently are using and have never had an ac problem like that and have also never herd that excuse. The dealership says they would charge us $60+ to recharge the system every year. Can someone help me out to determine if they are just making up some dumb excuse or if in fact they are being truthful.
